Artist: Chris Tutty
Dimensions: 30 x 40 inches
Description:
In I Hear the Train A Comin' Again, artist Chris Tutty captures the powerful essence of Kevin Costner in his iconic role from the hit television series Yellowstone. This commanding 30 x 40-inch portrait embodies the rugged strength and stoic leadership of the modern American cowboy, reflecting the spirit of the frontier and the timeless struggles of land, family, and legacy.
Costner’s piercing gaze dominates the composition, framed by rich textures and fine airbrushed detail that bring the figure to life. Behind him, the symbolic Yellowstone “Y” brand blazes across a rustic backdrop, while the distant white barn pays homage to the heritage and heart of ranch country. The contrast of light and shadow evokes both the grit and grandeur of the West — themes central to Tutty’s storytelling through paint.
This one-of-a-kind work has achieved national recognition, having been featured on television across Canada and celebrated as a raffle centerpiece for the Veterans Association, where it helped raise nearly $40,000 to support those who have served. Signed personally by Kevin Costner, the piece stands not only as a testament to cinematic legacy but also as a meaningful act of philanthropy — uniting art, fame, and charity for a greater cause.
With its cinematic realism, emotional resonance, and cultural depth, I Hear the Train A Comin' Again exemplifies Chris Tutty’s signature fusion of artistry, storytelling, and community spirit.
Each original painting is unique and a one-of-a-kind creation. A great amount of time and detail goes into each piece of art — from hand-painted brush strokes in acrylic and oil mediums to the intricate art of airbrushing, done with only the finest paints: Createx Auto-Air Colors and House of Kolors Automotive Paint.
Geological layering, reminiscent of sedimentary rock, is achieved using mixed mediums such as metallics, gold and silver flaking, fine powders of copper and iron magnesium, and glass resins. Pearls and industrial candy coats — like those used on high-end automobiles — enhance the luminosity and dimension of the image. Certain masterpieces incorporate elements of sculpture, including molding paste, crackling, and organic material, to create a dimensional embossed surface that visually leaps from the canvas.
Given the complexity of Chris Tutty’s mixed-media techniques, standard prints are not an option. Instead, Tutty creates Artist Proofs, which are repainted and retextured in the same meticulous process as the originals.
Each Artist Proof begins as a high-resolution photograph by Rob Ryan of Render DC, digitally remastered with a spectrometer for precise color accuracy. The archival pigment print on stretched canvas serves as a map for the new artwork. Tutty then reintroduces airbrushing, metallics, molding paste, pearls, and resin, recreating the vibrancy and dimensionality of the original.
Every Artist Proof is, in essence, a new painting born from the original — equal in quality, with expressive variations that make each one truly unique. This allows collectors to own a Tutty creation of exceptional craftsmanship at a more accessible price point.
